First Annual Little Flower Vocations Basketball Game

Little Flower hosted its first annual Vocations Basketball Game on Friday, February 10th, 2006. More than 200 fans cheered on the "Little Flower All-Stars" as they took on a team of seminarians and young priests from throughout the Washington Archdiocese. The Little Flower All-Stars secured a victory over "DC Hood" in a tightly-contested battle that wasn't decided until the final minute. The game featured LFS Eighth Grader Chris Hamm, Second Grade teacher Bob Kalas, youth minister Jeff Thompson, alumnus Billy Glading, and LFS fathers Pat McKenzie, Todd Ewing, Chris Mitchell, Jim Slawta, and Neil Alt, who coached a superb game. One of the seminarians, Dave Wells, a native of Bowie, shared his "vocation story" with the students at half-time, and Fr. Rob Panke, the Archdiocese's Director of the Office of Priest Vocations, encouraged everybody present to support vocations and to be open to the call of God. Afterwards, students had a chance to meet some of the seminarians and young priests over pizza and soda in the Parish Hall. Many thanks to all of the Little Flower parents and volunteers who helped coordinate the game and reception and made sure everything ran smoothly.
