Encounter Service Camp
In light of the Covid-19 situation, the 2020 Encounter Service Camp as envisioned has been canceled. The team is working to plan other service activities/events that may become possible based on many variables. I will keep you updated as I learn more. Please continue to "register" if you are interested in being on our mailing list for these activities.
Once again we would like to offer a summer service opportunity to high school students (including those graduating this year) of Little Flower parish. In the past we have served in West Virginia and New York and now we turn our attention to needs closer to home. This year teens from Little Flower will attend the "Encounter The Gospel Of Life" service camp from July 12-17, 2020 right here in Maryland.
Encounter The Gospel Of Life (EGL) is a high school Catholic work camp started in 1998 by local parishes and organizations. Teens from the Archdiocese of Washington and Baltimore will come together for a week at the University of Maryland. EGL focuses on “direct-relational” ministry, where we work with and get to know the people we serve. Our sites will include places like children’s camps, senior and special care settings all over Washington, DC and possibly a few legislative and advocacy sites.
In addition to serving others, Encounter also offers formation, leadership training, music, drama and liturgical ministries. Each evening features guest speakers along with fun, music, sharing, laughter, drama, prayer and learning with new friends from all over our area. Encounter is about living the Gospel through relationships, awareness, formation and service.
If you wish to be included on our information list as details and registration becomes available, please let us know. This is just an interest survey for now and you don't need to make a firm commitment at this time. We just need to estimate the size of our group for registration purposes by Jan. 31.
Registration will follow in Feb/Mar and final payments are due by May 31, 2020. The cost will be approximately $500 and aid to offset that cost is available if needed.
(Note: Adult help may be needed aside from overnight chaperones. We can distribute duties by having help with daytime driving to service sites, lunch preparation from home, or donations of food items. Indicate if you'd like more information on those opportunities to support us!)
