First Communion & First Penance

Penance (Reconciliation) is the sacrament of God’s loving mercy by which all sins, which we commit after Baptism, are forgiven if we are truly sorry for them. It is the sacrament of spiritual renewal.

Holy Eucharist (Communion) is the second sacrament of initiation after Baptism. Christ strengthens us with the gift of himself - his Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity - present under the outward forms of bread and wine.

To fully prepare for First Penance and First Holy Communion, students need a thorough understanding of the basic teachings of the Catholic Faith and the sacraments of Penance and Communion.

  • Public or private non-Catholic school students prepare for this sacrament within Little Flower’s Religious Education program. It is a 2 year journey. The program begins with preliminary preparations in Grade 1 following the Finding God series which continues and concludes in Grade 2. Classes are on Sundays during the school year from 10:15-11:30am at Little Flower School.

  • Private Catholic school students prepare for this sacrament at their school. To be included in the celebrations of First Penance and First Holy Communion at Little Flower, parents of 2nd grade students need to email Inga Barry at ibarry@lfparish.org

  •  Little Flower School students prepare for these sacraments at school. The Religious Ed office collects the names of the school’s students who will be receiving the sacraments.
